Scope of Data
All the most common storage needs for field data, including:
Logged samples and cores
geological descriptions and classifications
details and results of in situ tests
downhole instrumentation and time-related monitoring information
are available as standard in the Base Module.
What can I get out of HoleBASE?
The Base Module ships with a number of standard exploratory hole logs, including:
Cable percussion/rotary core log
Dynamic probe log
Trial pit log (2 styles)
Your logo and company details can be included on all these logs.
A range of CPT logs can also be supplied free on request.

Borehole Logging Output Top
One of the aims of HoleBASE is to produce high-quality borehole logs, quickly and efficiently either to a printer or its own built-in PDF writer. You can print some or all of your borehole logs at once, or preview them on screen with dynamic pan and zoom tools for close and detailed inspection.
HoleBASE offers a wide range of form layout options. Borehole and trial pit logs are one type of Form Layout - other types include graphs, data charts and header sheets.
The system comes with a number of form layouts to BS5930 standards and the optional Visual Form Designer (VFORMS3) allows users to modify these or define new ones from scratch.
As well as its own report and log production facilities, HoleBASE provides a central data store from which other applications can access ground investigation data. The HoleBASE Reporter add-in for Excel provides powerful query tools to enable the automation of reports in MS Excel. The KeyHOLE module provides equivalent facilities in AutoCAD, enabling the automation of section and site plan diagrams, chemical test reports, and 3-dimensional modeling of the geological strata, groundwater, and contaminated soil.
This ability to distribute data to where required, and its impressive range of data editing and manipulation tools, makes it the most versatile application in its class.
Electronic (PDF) Reports Top
Also as standard is the PDF Wizard to quickly and easily create fully bookmarked PDF files (electronic versions of your logs & reports). You can even produce a composite report containing site plans, section diagrams and logs, all fully indexed and bookmarked, giving your output a polished and professional look that your clients will be impressed with.
How can I get data into HoleBASE? Top
You have a surprisingly wide choice here, depending on your type of business and the role it plays in site investigation. By far the easiest solution is to receive AGS data from a contractor - you then simply import it into HoleBASE in seconds.
However, if you are the contractor that has to create the data the most effective way of acquiring field data is to use a mobile computer running PocketSI to log your exploratory hole immediately into digital form. You can then transfer your data to the office by direct email, FTP, Bluetooth or IR to your mobile phone, or simple plug it into your PC and download the AGS file.
Or you can use MS Excel with the KeyAGS Add-in to create AGS data on a computer near the site. For full details please see the section on KeyAGS later in this catalogue.
If you prefer more traditional methods and need to key in your data at the office from the field notes then IDEM (Integrated Data Entry/Edit Module) is an effective solution, allowing multiple users access to HoleBASE for entering new data and editing existing records.
HoleBASE itself offers a built-in task manager and data entry Wizards to enable fast and efficient entry of all the most common exploratory hole data fields. (This is particularly apt for small companies with modest data entry needs.) Information can also be viewed and edited via a series of proprietary data screens accessed by 'drilling down' into the data structure.
AGS Data Format Top
AGS import and export are also standard and a range of output options are provided. The latest edition of AGS Format, version 3.1, is fully supported, as well as complete backward compatibility with versions 2 and 3.
HoleBASE Central Top
Like most good software applications, HoleBASE should generally only be installed locally. However, in a multi-user environment, it is important that any customization and configuration changes made by the licencee are reflected across the entire network for all users. HoleBASE Central is where HoleBASE creates and maintains its system resources to enable sharing and collaboration between users. These resources include log form templates, report layouts, Project Manager, Geology/Legend codes and hatch patterns, system settings and preferences. System administrators may choose where HoleBASE Central is located. As well as ensuring continuity of resources between users, managing HoleBASE Central on the server has two further important benefits: Software upgrades can be centrally managed and delivered to each user next time they log on; and of course, the system can exploit the server backup regime so that in the event of hardware failure, corporate preferences and settings are recoverable.
User-defined Tables & FieldsTop
These can be added and modified effortlessly, and used in every aspect of your report output. And there's no need to worry about not conforming to AGS standard: HoleBASE 3.1 will ensure your AGS output obeys all the rules for user-defined data.
