One of the best ways to edit or review an AGS file is to import it into Excel. Of course, the AGS data file just a comma-delimited text file, so it can be opened directly with Excel. But because of the proprietary rules and structure of AGS data there are significant problems with this method, and the result is often far from adequate. Without any integral procedure for handling AGS structure Excel doesn't know about the continuation lines rule, for example, and where used, this will cause the data to be split across more than one row.
The KeyAGS 4 Add-in provides Excel with the knowledge base and procedures to overcome these problems and create much more useful and better-structured spreadsheets.
Import Units - This option will import the <UNITS> line into the spreadsheet.
Import Descriptions - This option adds the field description above the header row for each field imported
Split Sheets - This option when ticked will insert a split just below the header or <UNITS> line and invoke Excel's Freeze Pane command, allowing the user to scroll down the imported data without losing the column headers.
Highlight Key Fields - This option, when ticked, will highlight the Key field names in green, useful if you wish to edit data but do not want to change the key field information.
KeyAGS imports each selected group to a different worksheet and names each sheet appropriately. Continuation lines are automatically concatenated into one row, and the sheet is properly laid out, and so can be readily for converted back to AGS format using the AGS exporting features.
