Which CAD course should I take?

For many years, Keynetix have offered training for our AutoCAD plug-in, KeyHOLE.  With the expansion of the range of training services offered to include both plain AutoCAD and AutoCAD Map 3D we are aware that potential delegates may find it difficult to establish where their training requirements might lie.

Firstly, it is important to understand the relationship between AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map 3D and KeyHOLE.  AutoCAD is the basic product produced by AutoDESK and is available either as a “light” product (LT) or as the full product.  AutoCAD LT is a ‘stripped down’ version of full AutoCAD; only the full version of the product provides 3D capability and support for plug-in applications such as KeyHOLE.  AutoCAD Map 3D is an example of a ‘flavour’ of AutoCAD; that is, all the functionality of the basic AutoCAD is provided with additional functionality to serve a particular purpose (GIS tools in the case of Map).  Therefore, the following table illustrates which courses maybe of interest:

Basic

Intermediate

Advanced

Update

AutoCAD

AutoCAD Part 1: Essentials*

AutoCAD Part 2: Intermediate or AutoCAD: 3D Modelling

AutoCAD: Advanced Interactive Workshop

AutoCAD: Transition to 2010

AutoCAD Map 3D

AutoCAD Map: Essentials or AutoCAD Map: Digital Mapping for CAD Users

AutoCAD Map: Transition to 2010

KeyHOLE

GO-CAD1: CAD presentation of Geotechnical and Chemical Data

GO-CAD2: 3-Dimensional Modelling of geotechnical & chemical data

UGM

*delegates considering other courses in this table should have completed this course, or be of an equivalent skill level.

†the Keynetix annual User Group Meetings (UGM) can provide both a useful update to changes, serving as a refresher, but also an insight to a variety of our products.  To this ends no experience is necessary although other conditions apply.  Review this site for details of future UGMs.

In order to gain a clear understanding of course requirements delegates could think of themselves as users of more than one product; for example, if you are brand new to the world of AutoCAD and have access to KeyHOLE you may consider training in both products.

Naturally, delegates should make an assessment of their current skill level in order to use the table effectively.  If in doubt please speak to one of our training advisors on  01527 68888 , stating which product/s are of interest.  Note that the update courses provide a useful forum to get up to speed with changes that have been implemented in recent release of AutoCAD flavours.
