This year’s GE Awards were especially exciting for us here at Keynetix as both KeyLAB and KeyLogBook were finalists in the Product & Equipment Innovation Category, with KeyLogBook winning first prize!  It was a year when geotechnical ground modelling and BIM were also strongly represented with the editor’s choice award going to a BIM implementation project and the young engineer award going to Jenny Austin from Arup for her work on ground modelling in Singapore. The winning project in the “Product & Equipment Innovation” category was by Soil Engineering for their implementation of their Digital Data Collection Using KeyLogbook – a product jointly developed between ourselves and Equipe Geosolutions.

KeyLogBook uses the latest ruggedised tablet computer and software to produce a system which revolutionises the way in which field data from ground investigations is captured, recorded and disseminated.  The driller enters data using an intuitive system of on-screen prompts, ensuring that all data required by the relevant Eurocodes is collected at source, with the work flow being optimised for different drilling methods.

KeyLAB – our other finalist was presented as a joint project with Ground Technology Services.  The main advantage of using KeyLAB on this project was the use of data sharing between field based logging systems, engineering and the laboratory.  Sample details logged on the site with KeyLogBook tablet computers was transferred immediately to the laboratory who imported the details directly onto KeyLAB, minimising the time spent re-keying the sample data.  Time was also saved by using tablet PCs and a wireless network to enter data into KeyLAB in real time.  This allowed for very efficient production of AGS data and reports for the client.  Finally, data produced from KeyLAB was available in the Ground Technology Services Site Investigation Management System to allow for further fast geotechnical and spatial analysis.

Both projects have seen savings that amount to tens of thousands of pounds a year giving both Soil Engineering and Ground Technology Services a great return on their Keynetix software investment.
