|Hello and welcome to the September edition of Site Investigation News – Keynetix’s Monthly Newsletter.
With the nights beginning to draw in, our thoughts have turned to events in the winter. I have some dates for your diaries, below, as the venues for our Geotechnical Office User Group Meetings (UGMs) are now confirmed. These will be as follows:
Southern UGM: Tuesday 30th November: The Watermill Hotel, Hemel Hempstead
Midlands UGM: Thursday 2nd December: Warwick Castle
Northern UGM: Tuesday 7th December: Crown Hotel, Boroughbridge
These events are free to all of our users with a valid Maintenance Agreement and I highly recommend that you attend your nearest meeting if at all possible. The events offer you the chance to network with your peers, to tell us what you think of our products and to give feedback to help us match your requirements with our future developments. You will also be the first to hear about our plans for our products during 2011. You can register for your nearest UGM here:
Keynetix User Group Meetings 2010
We will be publishing the full program for the UGMs during the next few weeks.
If you are unable to make the UGMs, or would prefer to give your feedback on a one-to-one basis, do let me know. I always welcome the opportunity to visit our customers to find out what sort of projects you are working on and how you employ our software. My contact details are below and you are welcome to get in touch if this is of interest.
I very much hope you enjoy this edition of Site Investigation News and welcome your feedback and comments.
|Sand and Data in Abu Dhabi
|I have just returned from a 4 day consultancy trip to Abu Dhabi where I was presented with one of the biggest data management problems I have seen in a long time.
Three thousand Excel spreadsheets and fifteen hundred Word files of data awaited my arrival, along with the normal heat and humidity to be expected in that part of the world.
How do you get AGS data out of Laboratory reports presented in Excel and Word? For those of you who attended the AGS User Group meeting this year you will have seen a presentation by Miles Davies on this very subject. However the thought of cutting and pasting the quantity of data we had left the data team drained of any energy and the boss quietly counting the cost in the corner.
By the end of day 4 the team were converting the files at a rate of around 5 a minute using a new automated process for KeyAGS that I wrote while I was there (instead of sleeping). It is great to be in the middle of a large data management job again – I am in my element!
The new KeyAGS routine will be available shortly to all users together with a number of information posts in the next few weeks on the Geotechnical Data Hub.
|AutoZoom Pro 7.2 Released
|The latest and greatest version of AutoZoom Pro now supports AutoCAD Map and AutoCAD Civil for both 32 bit and 64 bit PC’s, working with releases 2009, 2010 and 2011.
AutoZoom Pro allows CAD users to quickly access and manage digital mapping, check on the data required and zoom to their location. AutoZoom Pro connects, styles and filters the data you need for your site.
AutoCAD Map and AutoZoom Pro are ideal for desk studies (or any job) working with large amounts of mapping data in a wide range of digital formats, including SHP, DWG, Oracle amongst many others. It provides a simple method to quickly access the required data with no extensive map skills.
AutoZoom Pro is ideal for IT managers and CAD Users. It reduces work load for IT managers in making the latest mapping data available to all users and optimising network usage, whilst enabling CAD users to quickly and simply access the latest mapping.

|Helping you to make the most of OS OpenData
|Recent months have seen major advances in the availability of mapping data. Datasets that originally cost tens of thousands of pounds are now available free of charge. Such datasets include UK wide mapping like Ordnance Survey Meridian 2 and VectorMap District. The VectorMap District looks particularly useful to us as it’s a mid-scale vector data set and ideal for locating sites.
The data can be downloaded from the Ordnance Survey site in 10x10km SHP files.
Both AutoZoom and KeySpatial will allow user to fully exploit the datasets and will allow you quickly and easily view the appropriate data for area of interest. Existing users of these products are welcome to get in touch to explore this further with us.
AutoZoom Pro is enhancement for AutoCAD Map and Civil and allows CAD users to very quickly and easily access relevant mapping data for any part of the site. If you are struggling with large datasets in AutoCAD you should take time to look at AutoZoom Pro and see how it may help you. You will find more information and a free evaluation here: www.autozoompro.com
KeySpatial is a Team GIS which allows anyone in your organisation to access mapping, data and documents. KepSpatial coupled with OpenData becomes a very powerful yet cost effective tool to unite your business information. www.keynetix.com/keypatial
