Ordnance Survey Opendata Announcement

Keynetix welcomes the recent Ordnance Survey Opendata announcement that allows users of our software products to download and use a large number of OS mapping datasets for free.  This exciting initiative will change the way the UK industry uses mapping data within the Keynetix GIS applications and significantly increases their value to our clients.

“The datasets contained in this announcement are significant” says Gary Morin, Technical Director at Keynetix “as just one of these UK mapping layers was sold for £15K per user less than 5 years ago.  Now that this data is freely available for commercial purposes the final financial restriction that has caused some companies to hold off the implementation of mapping systems has been lifted”

The full list of mapping products are: MiniScale, 1:250 000 Scale Colour Raster, OS Street View, Boundary-Line, Code-Point® Open, 1:50 000 Scale Gazetteer, Strategi, Meridian™2, OS Locator, Land-Form PANORAMA.

“We have run tests on the download procedures and systems today and have been impressed by the speed and ease of delivery” says Fionn Wardrop, Business Development manager at Keynetix. “It certainly appears that users of AutoZoom Pro and KeySpatial will benefit immediately from this service. KeyCSM customers will be able to use the data later this month with the new SHP file importer features being released with the next build.”

Keynetix will include updates to this announcement and news on the progress of product integration  in our new monthly newsletter.

For more information on this announcement see the Ordnance Survey Opendata website at http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/opendata.
